Setting the Scene The janitorial closet on the third floor of the old municipal building is more than just a storage space for mops, buckets, and spare light bulbs. It’s a tiny, dimly lit sanctuary where the hum of the building’s HVAC system meets the soft rustle of cleaning supplies. In this version of the story, a “JK” (short for “Jasper Kline,” the building’s unofficial mascot‑jester and part‑time handyman) has taken up residence among the broomsticks and cleaning chemicals. 6:45 a.m. – The Door Creaks Open The janitor, Maria, swings the heavy metal door open, greeted by the faint scent of lemon‑scented cleaner and the unmistakable click of a pocket‑sized recorder. Jasper is already perched on the top shelf, his mismatched socks peeking out from under a stack of paper towels. “Morning, Maria!
